COURT GRANTS EFCC PERMISSION TO ARRAIGN DIEZANI ALLISON MADUEKE AND OMOKORE
The Nigeria Economic and financial crime commission has been granted leave to arraign the former minister for Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison –Madueke and former Chairman of Atlantic Energy Drilling Company,Olajide Omokore. Justice Valentine Ashi of Federal Capital Territory [FCT] High Court ,sitting in Apo granted this leave.
The EFCC Counsel Faruk Abdullahi said the alleged offence contravened the provision of Section 26 and 17 of the corrupt practices and other related offences Act 2000.He told the court that while investigations were ongoing ,the former minister left the country to United Kingdom.
The Counsel to the EFCC Abdulahi also revealed that Madueke had refused to honor the invitation whereas the Counsel to Omokore ,Tayo Adeniyo informed the court that his client was not served with charges and his client is ready to clear himself
Allison – Madueke and Olajide Omokore will face trial on a five count charge bordering on conspiracy and illegal act of giving and accepting gratifications. They were both allegedly involved in accepting and giving a gift of properties described as penthouse 22,Block B,Admirality Estate,Ikoyi and penthouse 21 ,building 5,block C, Banana Island ,Lagos. Their trial will come up on 25th February,2019
It will however be recalled that EFCC had last month confirmed that the repatriating Alison-Madueke from the United Kingdom .Allison –Madueke is currently being investigated in the UK and had appealed to the Federal government to have her repatriated to Nigeria to face corruption charges against her.
